Signs Your Transmission Needs Attention

The transmission is the beating heart of any vehicle, responsible for transferring power from the engine to the wheels. EuroTech understands the intricacies of European transmissions and offers comprehensive repair services tailored to the needs of each vehicle.

Recognizing the signs of transmission trouble is crucial in maintaining the health of your vehicle. Common indicators include:

  1. Strange Noises: Unusual grinding, whining, or clunking sounds may signify transmission issues.
  2. Slipping Gears: If your vehicle hesitates or jerks when shifting gears, it could indicate transmission problems.
  3. Fluid Leaks: Transmission fluid leaks, often characterized by a reddish-brown puddle under your vehicle, require immediate attention.
  4. Burning Smell: A burnt odor emanating from your vehicle could signal overheating or fluid degradation within the transmission.

Whether you’re looking to repair or replace your transmission, we’ve got you covered. If you’re looking to get your transmission fixed or replaced, you’ve come to the right place!

Manual Transmission Repair

There are three shafts in your manual transmission: the input shaft, connected to the clutch, where the clutch draws power from the engine. The output shaft, connected to your car’s axle or drive shaft, depending on your vehicle’s setup. The counter shaft, where the weights and ratio change, acts as a “middleman” between the input shaft and the output shaft. The gearshifter is located in a layshaft. When your vehicle is in neutral, the gear shift moves freely from side to side. When you put your car in first gear, a small gear is moved into the countershaft, which is the smallest gear on your output that gives the most torque. Once you select the gear, the power goes to differential, and differential is the last drive. As you upshift, the torque decreases as it moves into the highest gear, which sets the input shaft into the splines on the clutch disc, which is turning the motor power.

Automatic Transmission Repair

Like manual transmissions, the torque comes from the head at the end of the crankcase. In comparison, the crankcase is connected to the torque converter, which is a donut-shaped part that contains fan-like blades that rotate and push hydrofluid from one side to the other. Hydraulic clutch converters receive the hydraulic signals and regulate the shifting of the gear unit and the locking torque converter according to the hydraulic pressures. Transmission gears are located behind the torque converter. To save space, small gear are mounted behind bigger ones. Typically, there are three planetary gears (including overdrive and reverse) behind the converter. The shift valve controls the shifting of the gears; the gears change according to speed, road conditions, and load.
